Disability/ESA question

Those who are on disability because of problems sustaining work, how did you do this? In England we have ESA, but it's normally for people with *diagnosed* (a diagnosis of which, especially for complex physical conditions, can be very difficult and long winded as I'm sure some of you living with complex physical conditions know) physical or mental conditions. Do yall have diagnosed conditions as well as autism, or did you just use the autism? Last time I checked, autism isn't enough to secure disability/ESA. For me personally I'm also reluctant to use it even if it was enough. This is because I'd feel like I was perpetrating the ableistic belief society has that people "suffer from" autism. I don't suffer from it, I suffer from ableistic society and employers.

  • I am currently on Universal Credit getting both standard rate and the limited capability work element and i have recently been awarded standard rate of PIP.

As of currently i have been diagnosed with  Autism spectrum disorder, depression, generalised anxiety disorder, bile acid malabsorption which causes Irritated bowel syndrome and Chronic Daily migraine. these formal diagnosis rewarded me with two points towards my PIP claim.

i also have Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Meares-Irlen Syndrome & Sensory processing disorder which i have no recorded of being diagnosed due to my medical records going missing within the NHS and County Council records which required a social worker and a doctor to write a letter supporting the lack of evidence to support me having these issues support my PIP claim. This also rewarded me one point toward PIP

I also have been waiting nearly a decade know for a ADHD assessment and had to get a phycologist to write me a letter supporting me having the disorder and the reason why i couldn't take antidepressant because of the effect it has on my ADHD and Autism related behaviour which was also required for PIP claim and just managed to scrape eight points. This rewarded me one point towards my PIP claim

I also had to ask former employers to sign a letter stating my issues integrating into the workplace which supported my PIP claim.this rewarded me one point for my PIP claim.

I also asked the police to print the incident report for when i had an massive autism meltdown and was locked in a holding cell overnight which supported my PIP claim and rewarded me one point.

I requested a needs assessment a while ago which lead to me gaining the support to move out of my messed up living situation with my parents and into my own flat, they helped with with setting up bills and benefits. doing this also got me access to 4 hours of support a week to help me with daily living tasks, independent skills and integrating into the wider community and accessing employment and education. which has lead to me doing my GCSE in english and Maths as an adult. Engaging with the adult social service early intervention employment scheme to assist me to find a long term sustainable workplace that can make accommodations and advocate for my difficulties.

Me having this support also rewarded me three points during the PIP assessment.

You need 8 point to receive the standard rate of PIP. 12 for the enhanced rate of PIP.
