Shutdowns

I just wanted to share this because I want to connect with other autistic people. This week I had a shutdown and I couldn’t speak or move, afterwards I started to use echolalia. In an odd way it almost felt really good because everything stopped and not being able to mask felt freeing, I could be my autistic self for a short time. Does anyone else feel the same when or after they shutdown?

Thanks for reading, it is really nice to be able to share these experiences and feel immediately understood.

  • Masking is stressful and for me it only works so well because no matter what I do the "real" me keeps getting through which makes me even more anxious. I try to avoid situations where I have to mask if possible. I just stay in as much as I can do I don't have to do this because it's really hard and leaves me feeling drained
