Making appointments

Is anyone else very slow to make appointments, even when necessary? I still haven't had the courage to call my GP yet re possible diagnosis referral, I have a painful tooth but haven't called the dentist and took about 3 months to call the hairdresser, and even then, got my husband to do it. Is it partly imposter syndrome and partly commitment phobia? I try to pass it of as "well I take calls all day, so don't want to make calls myself" but is it that? possibly its all of them. I drive myself mad trying to work up courage to make a call, then put it off by justifying that they are probably busy.

  • Certain types of appointments are very difficult.

...The doctors insisting that everyone ring at 8 in the morning, the constant re-dial while the sense of panic is rising, perhaps only to be told I have to try all over again tomorrow.  Then having to tell a receptionist why I want one, to then sit in a state of high anxiety while some one rings back.  I'm finding I put them off and put them off even when I really need them.

Other types of appointment... no I don't like it either, but I can do it.

  • I find that really impersonal and embarrassing when the receptionist asks why you want to see the doctor. But if you don't say they say the doctor can't help if they don't know. I really find that uncomfortable having to explain.

Can I ask what do you do to make yourself be able to do this? Whatever it is I could really do with it Slight smile
