University

Throughout uni, I’ve met only a couple of people who I talk to in lectures. Outside of lectures, no one really talks to me outside of “hi” and I see people already in their groups going out and making the most of uni life. Does anyone else have this problem? And how do you deal with feeling excluded all the time?

  • I'm afraid, unpleasant as it might be, you have to be proactive if you want to make friends. Have a look at the students' union and try out the societies. My daughter is in her second year and she joined several societies and has made friends through them. When I was at university, many years ago, I made no real friends on my course, but I lived at a traditional hall of residence and the communal living, though the first few weeks were difficult, made friendships quite easy to make.
