Cohabiting

Just wondering how many Autistic people live with their other half's?

I have been in a relationship for a long time and we lived seperately until first lockdown 2020. He moved in with me for obvious reasons, sold his house and that's how it is now.

I do love him very much, but find sharing space 24/7 really hard. We've talked about him getting his own place again but he doesn't want to. He is very kind and understands my needs and really wants us to live together but it's very hard for me.

How do other people manage it?

  • The layout that has worked best for me and my partner (both of us are similar and we need a lot of alone time), is that we have work schedules that differ from each other, so sometimes he's at work and I'm at home alone, or vice versa, so there are periods of time when we can have some space. But aligning our schedules to have a day off together is difficult, but luckily we don't like planning social outings (and the rare times we do, we don't feel like going out anymore), so that has not really been a huge problem for us.
