REFORM TO THE MENTAL HEALTH ACT TO PREVENT UNJUSTIFIED DETENTION OF AUTISTIC PEOPLE!

Sir Robert Buckland MP (who has championed the interest of people with Autism for some time) is leading the reform of the Mental Health Act in Parliament today (January 20).

Unable to find any information on the web (the news is rammed full of Boris Johnson and his odious behaviour, Covid, the Tsunami and Ukraine) but a big part of this is the unjustified, pointless, expensive, counter-productive detention of people with Autism, in unsuitable facilities, for years in some cases.

You can find your MP's email address here https://members.parliament.uk/members/Commons.

It's a bit late really (NAS - could perhaps have done with a bit more noise on this?) but I will be emailing my MP immediately saying this:

Dear (insert name)

As an Autistic person living in your Constituency, I hope you will support Sir Robert Buckland MP in the Adjournment Debate today (January 20, 2022)  in his non-partisan attempts to reform the Mental Health Act so that the unjustified, immoral, expensive, counter-productive detention of Autistic people under hopelessly outdated legislation comes to an end.  There is no excuse for this in 2022, and with public services under so much pressure, this is a clear way to reduce expenditure, and provide better, more effective, and more compassionate treatment of Autistic people, in one stroke.

Kind regards

Please feel to cut, paste and edit if that helps.   INCLUDE YOUR ADDRESS in the email because they will dismiss it if they think you are not a constituent.
