Private assessment

Hi I'm considering pursuing a private diagnosis, but don't really know what's the norm for that or not. I've been told the following and wondered if it sounded ok to pursue? Is there anything I should ask first?

"The assessment process follows the structure listed below and I would be delighted to help and support you through the process

Adults (£1750)

  • ADI-R Assessment (up to 3 hours) with informants via Google Meet
  • ADOS-2 Assessment (1 hour) face to face with you
  • Multi-disciplinary Meeting (1 hour) carried out by our team of clinicians internally
  • Feedback Session (1 hour) with you and the lead clinician via Google Meet
  • Final Report - Usually provided within 4-6 weeks of the Feedback Session
The process follows the gold standard NICE Guidelines, with each of our clinicians registered with their respective professional regulatory bodies and reference numbers available on request. You would be observed by at least two different clinicians with each case being overseen by a lead clinician.

Currently, we are able to offer the initial ADI-R appointment within the coming weeks, following receipt of the payment amount highlighted above."

  • I was diagnosed (privately) by an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist and a psychiatric nurse.  The Consultant is the ASD lead (that's probably not the right phraseology) for the NHS in our region.  A preliminary consultation with the psychiatric nurse, two written tests; one hour with the Consultant; my wife had an hour-long interview with the psychiatric nurse.

My GP had offered to check that the service I chose was professionally fine and she OK'd it.

I have a cousin who is a doctor who also had an input (though given the Consultant's reputation and stature, which I Googled extensively, I wasn't in much doubt).

    I paid £900.

I was quoted £2,500 by a private medical company with an exalted brand name but it was clear that they'd padded the service with things I didn't need, but which they could charge for ("feedback meeting?"  Naah, just the report, please).

I decided not to pay an additional £1,600 for a service which would probably use competent but slightly less senior practitioners, but take place in a more luxurious setting, and offer nicer coffee.
