Offered job

I've been offered a job.

The constant problem I have is getting references.  This is becoming a drama.

This job is in administration and office based.  However it is through an employment agency and this agency wants references covering the last three years.

I have been told that references don't need to go into detail about the person's performance, they just need to confirm dates of employment, nothing more.

However this employment agency has sent out a questionnaire to my referees asking about my time with them.  My past employers know about my behaviour and social difficulties.  I know one of my referees mentions I have autistic traits.

Now I'm waiting to see if the job offer will be withdrawn.

  • That was a character reference covering my period of unemployment.

  •   I know one of my referees mentions I have autistic traits.

God!  Your past employer has no business mentioning this.  Even if they are aware, this is your medical information and should be treated confidentially and disclosed to nobody that you don't want it disclosed to.

  • This job is through an employment agency and I get the impression that they are playing games with me.

First they wanted proof of all my employment over the last three years and references from all my employers.  I gave them that.

Then they wanted reasons for all my gaps in employment with dates and character references to cover these gaps.  I gave them that.

Then they wanted proof of my dates of unemployment.  The job centre refused to disclose that information because it's against their rules and regulations.  I gave the employment agency official universal credit letters of payments made to me by the DWP which were printed by the universal credit App.

Now they want to see all my bank statements to see what payments were actually made into my account.

All this for a very low paid minimum wage job.

  • This sounds like a tough situation, I wish you good luck with it. I Have know idea how employers will take that, there are certain jobs that people with autistic traits excel in.
