Confused about diagnosis

The GP sent me to a guy in the surgery as he could diagnose me for autism. After 2 appointment and reading my notes and talking to me and my mum he diagnosed me with autism and torrettes. I'm not sure if im actually diagnosed though as I'm not sure if its actually put down. I contacted the doctors he couldn't find anything about it but he sent it to the office to dig and find it and they only found the letter I got which just says I have autism and that. after she looked into to it more the diagnosis is in my family history but thats it the doctor didn't write anything else or anything just a letter and a note in my family history? 

I'm not sure if this is actually a diagnosis I was 25 when I got it but 27 now and it still bugs me as I'm not sure, the doctor says that it is and thats all i need as evidence but was expecting more like others have said they have letters and information or been sent to a group or other places. Is this a normal thing and am I diagnosed?

  • Send your GP a email asking for a brief medical record.

    this will show if you’re diagnosed.

    if you have a diagnosis, then request medical records from this time period 2017/2020,. Then read the letter your self and Google everything about that letter.

    my diagnosis was video chat with Specialist Occupational Therapist for a hourish, then a hourish straight after with GP. Whilst I was talking with one, my partner was talking to the other.. we swapped.

    then I had a draft diagnosis sent to me that I had to agree with,. Make changes.. then a few weeks later I had the diagnosis in a statement, a report and it’s massive

    Also, my process probably took 18mths from start to finish, with a advocate

    The letter I have but doesn't say much more then 

    To whom it may concern, my name etc. and says I can confirm that (Name) is registered at practice since (Date) and have seen her in my capacity as consultant psychiatrist at the practice.

    Then just my diagnosis and thats it? 

    He is a Consultant Psychiatrist and was told he's able to diagnose me. 

    The letter exists on my file and apparently it says in my family history I am.

    It just felt strange that he didn't actually write anything at all apart from the letter which is only one page. I mean i'm not saying i think his wrong just felt strange from everything else i've heard about others getting diagnosed and got pages of info about why. it just makes me doubt i went down the right path or missed a step.

    I mean if it's a diagnoses then by all means i'm not denying it. I'm not surprised i am to be fair might just be me looking into it too much than i need to.
