I was only diagnosed in my 40s. Part of the reason is that I was struggling more and more with certain sounds. I never found it much of an issue when I was younger, have you found that your sensory problems have got more acute over time?

I think that autism and basic human maturation are so inextricably linked that it's like trying to work out what's water and what's wetness. For me there is just this pervasive sense that me and people don't gel well. I want to belong but belonging brings pain. It feels as if finding comfort in the discomfort is our only hope. Ours is a paradoxical life.
