Just taken first step to diagnosis...

Hello,

I joined a couple of weeks ago and said that I was waiting for my doctors appointment - well now I have had it.

I was very anxious at first, as I wasn't sure how to broach the subject, so I spoke about my knee issue first (possible hamstring injury - but having ultrasound to confirm it).

After I spoke about that, I felt a little more comfortable saying what I had to say. I've known my doctor for years and he took the time to talk to me and told me about doing an AQ50 test and sending the result back to him and he would take it from there.

Mum came with me and said she was pleased I had taken this step as both her and Dad thought I had autism from a young age, but left it up to me if I wanted to bring the subject up. In a way I wish she or someone had brought it up earlier to me and I probably would have been properly diagnosed by now, rather than just doing the first step...but then a few years ago, I wasn't in the right frame of mind to do anything like that.

I am now getting anxious about the AQ50 test and my result from that. Is it complicated to do or do I have to go into a lengthy history?

  • Wow!

I've just completed my AQ50 test and got 40 out of 50 which shows that I am fairly high in the significant range for Autism!

Really wasn't expecting my result to be that high to be honest, but I answered it honestly.

Just goes to show what I really didn't think I had, but it does answer a lot of my questions that I've had in my head for the past few weeks...maybe I should have done one of these sooner??

Have now scanned and sent off to my doctors surgery - be interesting to see what happens next.

  • Hi,

Sounds like you’ve found the test helpful and it gave you lots to think about and as you say answered some questions and doubts you’ve had.
I found the same and it made me look back in my life and put a lot of situations in the past into context and help me understand why I feel the way I do under certain circumstances.

Hopefully it will be useful to your doctor, I’m sure it will.

Good luck on your journey and hopefully it doesn’t take too long.
