Stimming

Hello everyone, :)

So this is something I’ve noticed about myself for a while and only noticed it was something to do with my AS which is I hum twice or I’ll  bite my lip and also I’ll  rub my fist together which I do a lot when I’m on my PS4 so it’s like a comfort? I never mentioned this at my diagnosis a years ago as I didn’t think of it at the time, I just want to know if anyone does a similar thing? I know that younger children do this but I’m 32 so I’m not sure?

thanks

scott

  • I am 36 and have suffered with anxiety, ocd, insomnia etc issues most of my life...medications just made me unwell.

I have finally been diagnosed with innattentive ADHD awaiting medication so I can try and go back to work.

Since my diagnosis I was unaware of 'stimming'.

I have constantly twiddled my hair since I had hair, often waking up with knots in my hair(even manage it whilst asleep). I bite the inside of my cheeks(since childhood). I leg bounce at an incredible speed and dont even realise I am doing it. Twitch my feet, twist my upper body in a rocking motion, head bob, rub my finger tips on my nails, pick at my skin, constantly scratch, struggle to sit on a chair feet on ground, tap my finger tips, get completely lost in my fave songs dancing and singing.....AND these are just the ones that I notice!!!

As im typing this I am still managing to multi task 3 of them at once each time I pause...honestly dont know how other people have not noticed how strange my behaviours are.

Thats just me and my stims...the other stuff I have to deal with everyday is exhausting and lonely.

  • everyday is exhausting and lonely.

I agree dealing with the issues related to my ASD is exhausting and overwhelming, but as for lonely I don't share this one as loneliness is fantastic. I do however understand tge issue with feeling "alone" in the sense of nobody to ask or turn to when you need a sounding board or some advice.
