The same all over again - raging helplessly

This beautiful morning at 1am, between spoons of granola, I was trying another bite on a conundrum that is bothering me since I remember.

How many times did I pay the price for misconduct of othes? Being blamed instigator when bullied. Being stickered as 'late' in development simply because someone doing the teaching was not treaching anything, and I had to attend it. Being left to the wolves, because there was nobody to back me up when in trouble, and they knew it.

It's happening all over again. that thought triggers reliving of all those memories with the same tag, making me rage in a helpless fury.

Tuesday 14th I am supposed to start work at Lidl, but on Wed 8th i received an email, follow up after interview, describing what happens next, and asking me to answer Experian questionaire in order to have my references checked. Turns out I did not secure the job yet, Someone on behalf of Lidl, will do that during the training day on 14th, if my references checks out.

During the iinterview I explained to them why obtaining references via external referencing company might be next to impossible, and they assured me that references won't be neccessary. That I do not have any names or email addresses from last job, because they did not want to give them to me, only address and landline phone number. And that manager from a previous job won't answer to an email sent to her to check references purely out of spite. People working for referencing company consider sending an email asking for references as active checking of references, than they wait until the date when they are due to produce a report, and issue report that references did not check. Active checking my ***.

WTF? What am I supposed to think after follow up email? Did they even hear what I told them during interview?

It is a retorical question, no need to anser.

I post it only to present a situation where you can clearly see, that people (I don'tt think we can do it like that) apply most common solution to a problem and than they wait until it plays out.

In my opinion that is one of the reasons, if there is more than one, preventing them from being creative, from being innovative problem solver.

    they did not mention references once, and I did not start talking about it myself,

    what manager doing interview told me ''Don't worry about references'', turned out to be true, however impossible it is to do it, 

    I have to stop thinking only, what was the point of that external referencing company, only, lol

    But it was a good day, Manager doing induction did not bore us, 22 new colleagues to death, nobody told me any weird comments, they even smiled from few of my jokes

    but I made an effort, gave myself my ''-20 haircut'' yesterday, to look 25 years old again Smiley, so I don't think anybody guessed my age, I reckon 19 of them were under 30, mostly students, 2 ladys 50 or so, and me

    On a train I successfully avoided talking to anybody, a very good day Smiley

    tomorrow first day of real work, at last

  • no there were no options like that

    it did not let me forward without leaving blanks

    so I filled them with 'IDont@have.it' if it was for email

    I contacted them today, they had option via online chat, and explained it to person on the other side, if it was person not bot, and they were supposed to send me email with further instructions but nothing came so far.

  • Can you respond to the questions which don't apply to you with "Does not apply" or "Not applicable" and then answer the questions which do? They probably send this same blanket email follow-up to everyone. They might not have time to modify it. I usually assume this and respond as originally agreed upon.

    We're facing a double-edged sword.

    Tomorrow I will confront them with a question

    Are you going to use a window of opportunity created by a gap in existing referencing process, that allows you to exclude people like me, or are you willing to use an alternative way to check my references?

    Because what employer is trying to accomplish by checking references? What can be accomplished?

    1. you did work where you say you did

    2. you were not dismissed for gross misconduct

    3. you do not have any conflicts with the law

  • yes, that's a good news, it is becoming less common

    The last two jobs I had, never checked my references.  They asked for references and I informed my referees that a reference request was imminent, but they never contacted my referees.
