Purpose of visual boards

So my child can only speak some single words.

My school are using visual boards to get my child to engage. I can get my child to complete any work without any visual boards.

Can anyone explain the purpose of visual boards and why the school think these are necessary if I can get my child to do any academic activities

  • Hi, apologies for the way this question has been written. I wrote this post late at night, and should have waited to today.  I can understand why you questioned if English was my first language etc.

Firstly, I'm the parent of the child. I can get my child to complete any work without visuals. My child listens to me, can follow Instructions and enjoys the work/activities given.

My child can speak in single words, and is beginning to speak in two word sentences.

    Thank you

  • My school

Your school? Are you the parent of a child or are you the head teacher of a school?

I can get my child to complete any work without any visual boards.

Are you saying you can get your child to complete any type of work without visual boards? Or are you saying you can't get your child to complete any kind of work without using visual boards?

So my child can only speak some single words.

Your child can only speak single words? Does that mean he/she only knows how to speak in single words, or only knows how to speak a few single words.

Can anyone explain the purpose of visual boards and why the school think these are necessary

A vision board is a tool that gets students with little or no language skills to explore in imagery what they want to accomplish either academically or personally. As for the school, it would be something you need to discuss with them as it is impossible to know why they have taken this decision without knowing the child.

At a guess, it would be because the child is not able to articulate themselves clearly in speech.

Just out of curiosity, is English your first language? Do ygou have a diagnosis of ASD, or any communication disorders?
