Special school private or mainstream

Hi everyone

I’m new here. Thanks for having me. I would love some help and advice. I have a recently diagnosed with autism little girl, aged 5. We went private because of the wait. They suspect she has adhd aswell but want to wait until she is 6 to test for that. She attends a private school which we moved her to from mainstream in September for the smaller class sizes. We had a meeting with her SENCO yesterday and she said she thinks she needs to be in a special school. She has an ehcp which says 17 hours although this was finalised before her diagnosis so school are now going to ask for a review in light of this.

If anyone can recommend special schools either mainstream or private in the Hampshire area I would be so grateful.

Thanks again x

  • I dont live in Hampshire so Im afraid I cant recommend a specific school but as a SEN Teaching Assistant I would say that autistic or ADHD children sometimes tend to do better in a special school. Some of the children I have supported in mainstream can become quite isolated from other students,  especially if they have one to one support

This isnt always the case though. All I would say is follow your gut instinct for your child, then you cant go far wrong
