they can also do good things like delete bad words or posts as in Discord

it's IT terminology,short from robot, for a program that was written to pretend to be human,

on our forum they post fake responses to topics that already exist, to post links to nefarious websites in those posts

Another precaution could be to make links posted to posts that have been inactive for a year or more have to be reviewed. A lot of the spam appears to be on very old posts.

they are mostly harmless ---- please do not worry 

I know it is ongoing issue on all social media, but some of us here are more vulnerable to that kind of targeting, and it is in our nature to worry a lot.

Links posted that way do not reveal an address, meaning they can lead anywhere.

For the moment it is advetisments to buy some tutorials or something like that.

But they can lead to an unsecure website full of viruses as well

as identifiable I meant a nickname and some story, for obvious reasons nothing like a CV. I suppose I should redact mine.
