Employment

Hi All,

This is my first post, after reading the discussions for a while.

I am just curious how u all deal with employment.

I have always struggled keeping a job & never know what I want to do,so just jump from job to job & it is awful for my mental health.

Any replies appreciated.

  • I am 25 years old and i have had many jobs and they typically don't last for long. I don't know about you but i am either get managed out, harassed, bullied, physically assaulted, Poisoned or scapegoated on and either have to quit because i have metal breakdown, My health becomes compromised or i get fired. I have done so much work experience at this point it has become a joke & i have completed every health and workplace programme operating in ten mile radius from where i now live.

You have to remember that a lot of autistic individuals are not in employment. I think the statistic suggest that only fourteen percent of autistic individuals where in work before the pandemic. A significant amount of that statistic showed that most of them where in part time work and about 2 percent where in a specialised field of their choosing.

Firstly you have to figure out if you want to work and secondly figure out what you want to do for employment. Once you decided this ask for the help. Job centre in the UK have disability employment advisor. Theirs are multiple employment schemes i highly recommend avoiding the Shawtrust they are awful organisation.

You may be able to access college if You have PIP and still claim universal credit if your over the age of 21. you may be able to access employment based internship.

If your Job searching I recommend using Linkedin over indeed and other job searching website. Linkedin is more complex and is more of a social network for finding employment and contains far less dodgy job posting than indeed and Cv library. You can also use the government website to find disability friendly jobs.

You also may not be ready for employment, take a break, deal and process stuff and discover what you want to do and work on getting better and improving your health.

Sadly familiar to me. Hence I am now self employed. I had a career change at 43 after never really getting on in a job for 20+ years.
