Accuracy of online tests

Sorry, my first post on here was rather a wall of random thoughts, so I thought I'd break things down into smaller chunks as I attempt to discover if I have some form of autism

One of the reasons why I think I may are my results on online tests, quizzes etc. For example I tool the online test at this site...

https://psychology-tools.com/test/autism-spectrum-quotient

On this test I scored 39 out of 50 which suggests I have significant autistic traits. But, how accurate are these online tests? - does a score of 39 on the test genuinely mean there is a possibility I'm on the spectrum or is this kind of test more or less worthless?

  • Hi NAS74584,

Thank you for sharing this with our community.

The AQ test was developed by a team of psychologists to measure autistic traits in adults. It's not a means of diagnosis but may indicate the need for further assessment.

These online 'autism tests' do not guarantee accuracy, and while they are no replacement for an official diagnosis, if the results are significant, it's worth taking it along to the GP.

    Hope this helps.
