Trying to understand my diagnosis

I've only just been diagnosed as having Autism Level 1 this week and I just got my report through with my official diagnosis.

I was assessed using the ADOS module 4 but there's one part of the report I don't understand.

Under 'Imagination and Creativity' it says I was able to show some creative actions but these were limited and stereotyped'.

I don't know what this means. I always considered myself really creative since I've always done a lot of writing and art, and people have always praised me for my creativity, but this feels really demotivating and I don't know what this means. Disappointed

Is anyone able to help me understand what this means?

  • Hello - I think 'creativity' is a really tricky thing to measure and very few people can completely avoid being derivative. There is a reason why we all know Van Gogh and Picasso after all - they did something totally different!  I wouldn't interpret that as saying you aren't good at art and writing or other creative endeavours. Maybe they mean that you often have similar themes or subjects to your work - for instance, if you liked drawings dragons more than something else. Please don't let a comment put you off doing things you love - the people who know you better are better judges of your creativity!
