About 3 months ago my sons school got a new Head Teacher at the same time as his EHCP was finally underway, unfortunately they were totally incompetent and thought it was appropriate to take a zero tolerance approach and to try and punnish the Autism out of him.
About a week later we withdrew him from the school as it was clear that the new Head Teacher was doing actual emotional harm and we complained about the whole situation.
At the same time the school was inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate.
The school ignored our complaint for 2 months until I told them I was going to the press, the police and pretty much everything else, at which point the school investigated and upheld all the elements of the complaint agreed to implement a full review of all SEN provision within 6 months, establish best practice and share it at the Headmasters and Mistresses Conference.
Loads more stuff came out showing the school had been saying one thing but doing another for years and we won't know what happened to individuals unless they get struck off but that's just how it is.
The problem is that the Independent Schools Inspectorate didn't find any problems, I sat on it for a couple of weeks but it just won't go away so I've used their complaints process sending the letter from the school detailing how they got it wrong and asking how can I reconcile that with the report saying that there isn't a problem whilst the school admits that there is.
The complaint against the school was already escalated to the Department for Education whilst I was being ignored and to a certain extent I think I've got as much as I can from them but I'm concerned that the inspectors need to get their act together too. Am I going too far to report the Independent Schools Inspectorate to the Secretary of State for Education?
It always feels like you have to go to ridiculous extremes to get things done and that I should have a safety warning but this is about making sure that kids don't have to suffer like I did or my son might have done if we hadn't taken action.
