Sleeping Problems Please Help

Hello, my Autistic daughter, Becky who is 24 is having really bad sleep problems and I'm at a loss of what to do about it and to help her. She doesn't sleep at all and this is becoming dangerous. She has moments where she has a nap for a few seconds but it isn't enough. She's exhausted all the time and has had accidents which led to her being hospitalized. She's scared of the darkness when she sleeps and of bad dreams so she sits up all night listening to music and writing. She has huge bags under her eyes and she is constantly tired. But she won't sleep because she's scared. I'm really worried that she'll get ill from this because her body is on the go all the time. Please help me to help Becky, I don't know what else to do.

  • I'm sorry to hear about your current situation. If I were you I'd reach out to the GP. It sounds like she needs specialist help and support.

When I was having problems I got on touch with the Autistic society and that helped a lot.

It might be worth reaching out to them. It can only help.

  • i completely relate to your daughter, i used to stop myself from going to sleep because i dreaded the bad dreams. what are your daughters bad dreams of? i am only asking that because i sleep with scissors under my pillow which has helped me because i know i can protect myself which probably sounds a bit silly and probably wouldn't work however it puts my mind at rest. has she spoken to her GP? they might have some ideas on how to help. she could always try medication?
