What would you do if you won a million pounds/dollars ?

After paying your taxes on that £1M BUY a lot of shiny yellow metal coins. Hide them well, and ensure only the right people can find them after you kark it. Draw from your stash as required.. *Hint* if you buy certain UK and commonwealth issued Yellow shiny coins, even if they go up in value you pay no CGT. Saving in gold makes it less likely that you will fritter away your savings thoughtlessly too. (I can suffer from this problem...) It goes without saying that you cannot boast about this form of savings like you can about "money in the bank"...

By myself my own apartment, close enough to my Mum so she can support. I’d use most of it to sustain myself, but also I’d like to think I could put some aside to help with charities and good causes, because they will always need help too

I really hate keeping secrets, but doing that certainly would buy you time to actually decide what you would do with it, faced with the reality... 

Fixing or maintaining the boat probably! (with bursts of partying wildly in between)

Move to the UK (assuming there wouldn't be any issues with residence permit etc.), preferably to a small cabinet near a train station in the middle of nowhere (if possible). And buy Schweizer franc for the rest and put them in some kind of savings account and live on the revenue, if possible. Oh, and buy a book that tell me how to convert British units of measure into metric. I'd need that.

oh I assumed u had an Australian passport. I was offered a move to Australia when I was very young but didnt take it. Now it is quite hard to get in.

But yea go for a visit  - its something to look forward to.

Things made a lot more sense to me in Aus. I miss it terribly sometimes. B and I have talked about it before, but never that seriously. The dream's kind of over now, though - I wouldn't fulfil the health requirements for a visa to live there permanently. B says when I'm better and Covid is more under control, we'll go travelling there.
