Adjustments at work

Hi Everyone

Could you give me some examples of adjustments at work somebody with diagnosed autism could ask for. Also, any tips on how to speak to a manager who says things like: you should know this, this is common sense, etc. and is constantly telling you off for not doing things his way.

My husband has been referred for a diagnosis and it will probably take ages until it’s done. But he struggles with communication at work (particularly with his boss) and I’m looking for some solutions or strategies for him in the meantime.

Thank you. This is very helpful. Also, would you know where to look for a private diagnosis? I don’t think my husband will be able to wait for the NHS one. They said they won’t see him for another 12-24 months. Any tips would be appreciated.

If you have more questions, feel free to contact our Autism Helpline team. They can provide you with information and advice about getting a diagnosis. You can call them on 0808 800 4104 (Monday to Friday 10am to 3pm). Please note they are experiencing a high volume of calls and it may take a couple of attempts before you get through to speak to an adviser.
