Is there strange/odd threads lately, or is it me?

Can we just respectfully talk about some of the strangeness I've seen.

I know women on this forum, have genuinely expressed some thoughts.

Here's what I've noticed, maybe you have too?

-Many new accounts, little to zero profile info

-New people to the forum...no intro....just straight into a.) overly-sexualized post b.) long, weird font c.) argumentative/no hope/hate/multiple personalities

Thoughts?

  • Some people have claimed to be moderators - sort of insecure and child-like to try to claim power over people - and their personal information.

I've had to make a formal compliant to get the site owners to look into the activity of such a person.

  • Just wondered?? How do you know on here that a moderator, is actually a genuine moderator for the site? Could I not just change my profile name to "Markochef mod" ?? surely there has to be a criteria to be a moderator, some sort of site proof of authenticity of the moderator?

  • Strange! Odd! Threads?

Very true.  In other words, business as usual.

  • I’m not very tech savvy so my profile is a little blank.

I don't care about people's profiles - I prefer to know them via the content of what they contribute via the forum. Smiley

  • I’m a new profile here I have a little bio but really just made a profile to try make some friends as I can’t in real life. I’m coming to the end of my autism  assessment and have answered a few questions people have posted here. I’m not very tech savvy so my profile is a little blank.

  • I mean... Autism forum.  Strange/Odd is to be expected, no?

  • I have compassion for those with mental illnesses that are such that they have other conditions-not just ASD. However, many people come here delicate. I see other users get deleted. I just would like to know there is 100% fairness here.

  • I believe they are 100% voluntary. There is Dani, Claire, Ross. If you ever see anything like hatespeech, name calling etc. You can @ Ross-mod or Dani-mod. Although, I'm not sure if moderators are allowed to be members.

There have been claims that really old members (high pts) are both mods/members. I asked a mod directly & wasn't corrected.

  • What's reporting as abusive got to do with the OP?       What's it to do with site traffic levels?

Report one of your own posts - then you can see for yourself what happens - but why would you want to cause trouble for yourself?

As for people dominating the forum, someone already tries to do that - with inane responses to every single post.       Personally, I don't understand the need to do that on a tiny site like this.

  • I mean i will report one of your posts as abusive and we can see what happens ?Do you agree ? Is there any mediation before that, is there anyone here who knows the forum and its participants who can resolve such issues before all this nastiness, pettiness and childishness occurs from certain individuals ?

Surely someone cannot simply hit the abuse button because they don't like a response ? That cannot be right in any forum ?

If that were the case, then anyone off the street could simply come on to the forum and try to dominate it, whether for ulterior motives or attention and that would be unhealthy for the forum.

  • What do you mean?    If you look at the number of active threads and the number of replies per day, I'm guessing around 200 posts per day - no idea of visitor numbers - I can't count those.

Thursday and Sunday seem to be the busy days.

  • do the mods get paid?

  • Are you willing to do an experiment on how the site operates in default ?

  • No - I'm talking total posts - it's a really slow site - I tend to log in around 6am - and there's probably only 10 posts since the night before..

  • You mean 200 visitors not posts I'm presuming ?

  • someone should be here as a mod on a regular basis.

If you look at the traffic on this site I'd be guessing at less than 200 total posts per day-  that's not enough to pay someone to look after it - we are a tiny forum with very few active regulars.

  • Yes. There are definitely profiles that come and go. I have also noticed that many replies get deleted. I understand that the poster can do this, is that correct ? I mean completely remove a reply as if it never occurred ? Also I have just received an alert telling me that my post created has been reported as spam or abuse and removed when I did not create the discussion. I simply replied to it but absolutely could never be taken as a abuse or spam.  In either case, I'm sorry to say, that the forum is badly managed and run. There doesn't seem to be anyone here on a regular basis that knows the forum or can deal with anything. Everything seems to be expected to run by itself. I appreciate that the pm facility was eventually sorted but the whole technical side could do with an overhaul and someone should be here as a mod on a regular basis.

  • There's a lot of what I call 'drive-by' posts - new person, one post - and then they never come back to answer the replies - it gradually drops down the list and disappears.

Everything else is pretty much typical forum-life - it ebbs and flows. Smiley
