How do I get my 19 year old son diagnosed?

Hi,

Where do I start when trying to get my 19-year-old son diagnosed? I have had my suspicions since he was very young but he has always coped well. He has now finished his first year of uni and has really struggled with everything really. Obviously, the waiting lists on the NHS are long,  so I was thinking of getting him a private diagnosis, but I don't know where to start?

Can anybody help me, please?

  • Hi Rachel,

Just to add to / confirm what said:

My private diagnosis just cost me £1300 in Kent a month ago.

I have "Medicash" (cashback insurance) - they did not cover it as the specialists were not on the GMC Specialist Consultant register.

I checked in advance that the NHS would accept the diagnosis - also checked the team's Clinical Psychologist CV (he also worked for the NHS doing diagnoses and was HCPC registered).

    Hope that helps.
