Assistance /support dogs (to accompany autistic adult to work) - advice please

There doesn't seem to be training available for assistance dogs for autistic adults in employment, only for autistic children.

Additionally, my employer seems to only allow assistance dogs for physically disabled employees which seems discriminatory.

I am looking for advice about both these subjects and have been on the following websites so far:

https://www.assistancedogs.org.uk/members/

https://www.supportdogs.org.uk/Pages/FAQs/Category/faq

https://www.autismdogs.co.uk/our-service/what-is-autism-assistance-dog

If you can offer advice or links that would be great, thank you.

  • Would they more likely categorize these types of animals as emotional support? I know that they aren't recognised the same way as assistance dogs and don't receive quite the same level of training. I would like to see more recognition for them but that would also involve tighter regulation which could have the double edged sword of making it more difficult for people to access them as a form of support.
