Looking to get diagnosis, speaking to GP is stressing me out!

Good morning!

I’m a 27 year old person who is looking for assessment for ASC. I’m trying to contact my GP to get a referral to assessment services, but I’m worried that as I don’t have a history of additional mental health support, they won’t take me seriously. I’m also super doubtful as my experiences are subtle to spot because I spend so much energy masking.

Does anyone have any experiences they can share of speaking to their GP, just so i can get an idea of what the conversation might be like? I really appreciate it! I want to believe my GP will listen to me, but I don’t think any GP I've ever spoken to has actually listened to me before so I’m not hopeful Disappointed

That really shouldn't be a requirement for a referral.  In my own experience all I had to do was take notes of why I thought I was autistic and tell my GP, they were more than willing to refer me for a diagnosis (was around 2017) and by November 2020 I had a diagnosis of ASC.
