Looking to get diagnosis, speaking to GP is stressing me out!

Good morning!

I’m a 27 year old person who is looking for assessment for ASC. I’m trying to contact my GP to get a referral to assessment services, but I’m worried that as I don’t have a history of additional mental health support, they won’t take me seriously. I’m also super doubtful as my experiences are subtle to spot because I spend so much energy masking.

Does anyone have any experiences they can share of speaking to their GP, just so i can get an idea of what the conversation might be like? I really appreciate it! I want to believe my GP will listen to me, but I don’t think any GP I've ever spoken to has actually listened to me before so I’m not hopeful Disappointed

  • my GP due to covid is online "ask my GP" service.... i never would ever ask or go into GP for anything with face to face service as i always consider it waste of time whatever i feel, but the online service i could do without leaving home so i been using it quite a bit, they ok, although they will ring you instead of email you even if you click reply by email lol

    so honestly its pretty easy and good due to the new online service and how that works. it cuts out face to face contact and having to go out, basically its just like asking a question on here, that simple and easy to do. then they ring and then agreed alot of the stuff were listed as part of asd and are referring to a assessment center which they said my take weeks. they will listen and take it serious no matter how much you have used their service in a short period of time lol
