help me please !!!!!!!!

Hi Everyone,

I'm new here, but I have a question's for any one to answer and they are Dyslexia & ASD go together right!?  This is because I have asperger  & I am a little worried about a job that I'm about to start tonight (with OCS One Combined Services Ltd). The job details are to count stock fast and make sure it is correct (670 items per hour)?  My worry is that my number counting problem all to do with "Dyslexia" will get me in trouble before I have finished the job tonight?.  Would anybody advise me against to this job in the first place & what can I do about it or  what type of job would i be more suited for ..

  • Aspergers and Dyslexia don't necessarily go together.

I have Asperger's, for example, but I'm not dyslexic. My sister and brother are Dyslexic, however, and my sister isn't on the Spectrum, but my brother might be.

It's likely to be like many other apparent correlations between Autism and other conditions - that is that the underlying genetic causes of the different conditions are related, but genes are very complex and you don't have singular genes that cause singular conditions, but rather various combinations of genes cause various conditions, so you do get clumping of conditions, but it does not then mean that if you have one you will have an other.

My sister and I also have Crohn's, for example, which is another genetic condition that is common amongst those on the Spectrum, but my brother doesn't.

Anyway, regarding your main question - if you have issues around counting, and dyslexia, or dyscalculia, then yes, the job you describe may not be suitable.

Are the company aware of your disabilities?

If they are, then they must, under law, make reasonable adjustments.

These may include, for example, not expecting you to be able to work as fast as others.

I would say go to the job, make the line manager aware of your difficulties, if they not aware of them already, and do the best you can.

    You may surprise yourself.

I hope it goes well for you.
