Can an autistic adult be employed as a carer of other autistic people?

is there anything to stop autistic people caring for other autistic people?

to date I have found the accepted cultural view is that non autistic NVQ carers care for autistic people and that care by parents and siblings, loving partners and/or other autistic people is somewhat frowned upon, which is quite frankly bizarre

I have for many years provided respite care for parents who are friends who have autistic children. I have basic childcare qualifications, plus required clearances and in addition provide a sort of NT to AT transulation service having an understanding of NT like perhaps someone would of a foreign language or culture. I allow parents a break and calm situations down, while tutoring life skills from life long experience. 

I am yet to charge, while I was just able to cover my needs from my employment (though now slipping into debt) I felt that charging parents was unfair- they have enough issues with regard to their child, let alone financial

that said I am coming to an employment crossroads and will need a new path. So is there anything to stop me being an independent carer, in order to remain independent myself? and can I apply for funding so I am not making life more difficult for families?

  • That is one for the Red tape circle to answer. I am sure some other drone or snake exploitive company will stop you practicing, remember it is Brutus Britain with circles of elitest association that rule this land. NAS being a good example. 

    However, I am sure some council controlled swallow up the local ground resources organisation, will employ you are a so called "volunteer" for nothing, to take use of your experience and also justify a PR policy of look we involve the autistic in our organisation .. "Smile for the camera". Do you need a wheelchair. ?

    Sorry, to be so negative, but healthcare system in the UK is not about true healthcare it is about funding for the greedy private good(jobs and salaries, for posh friends in position) organisations, like your post it is about making a cosy living or an easy taxpayer funding buck. I think, it wonderful that you think you can join there train.

    I agree you should be able to exploit the same as the rest of the world as you have direct expertise and your little key permission certificates, but I sorry I don't see it happening because of the snakes and there drones in power will STOP YOU, under a guise someone with a mental health disability can not, health and safety, insurance liability, etc....

    Lets us know what happens ?
