NHS referral to Lorna Wing or Local services

Does anyone know if the NHS gives you a choice over who does your assessment?

I approached the Lorna Wing Centre and have filled in all their triage paperwork.  Since they accept NHS referrals, I approached my GP.  He sent me an AQ10 to fill out and has referred to our local services.

Are they supposed to give you a choice, or is it a case of if I want to use the Lorna Wing diagnostic service, I will have to self fund?

Has anyone else been down the NHS route to using them?

  • They tell me that due to COVID they are doing most of their assessments via MS Teams anyway at the moment. If my GP won't refer there, I'll pay anyway, I think. I don't have any faith in our Trust's MH Services

  • You may find that the GPs can only spend their budgets with certain services in their general area. If you’re a very long way from Lorna Wing they might not be able to refer. I’d be interested to know myself though, I’m just over an hour from them but there is a private clinic very local to me who specialise in diagnosing adult women who also take NHS referrals. I’ve heard lots about how good the Lorna Wing Centre are I’m wondering if it will be worth travelling there over the 5-10minute drive to the clinic here
