Autism diagnosis

I'm curious as to what the process of an autism diagnosis is as an adult.  Can anyone explain the process to me please?

  • Do the online test to get an idea of whether it might be worth going down the rabbit hole.
Go to your GP and ask for a referral and justify it.
Wait a year or more to get an appointment with an assistant psychologist and talk about your childhood.
Get another appointment a couple of months later with a full psychologist and talk about adulthood.
    Get a decision.

Thats the barebones of it.  It takes a while to get it down, probably even longer now, given covid and the pandemic.

Be 100% when going in because a yes decision isnt always a positive thing.  Its a process that will give you answers to questions, but be sure you can handle and want the answers.

Their are positives though and the community is great.  Its also likely as an adult you have adapted pretty well to having ASD if you do get a yes decision.
