Supermarket fatigue

Hi everyone

I'm Andrew and I was diagnosed with autism today - bit of a shock as I'm 47! Anyway, for many years now when I go shopping at the supermarket (I've got kids so normally a big shop), within minutes I start to get really fatigued. I now have to listen to a podcast/audiobook to keep me from getting too tired as I shop.  I've always wondered why this happens but I'm now thinking that there must be a correlation with my ASD. Does anyone else have the same issue or am I totally barking up the wrong tree?

Looking forward to connecting.

Andrew

  • Hi Andrew

I can very much relate to this. I also have to listen to audiobooks/podcasts to not get overwhelmed, especially in situations like going to a supermarket. It's too draining otherwise because there's just so much information to digest...

You already have figured out a way to cope by distracting yourself with audiobooks, so that's really good :) It gives a sense of control as you can listen to whatever you want. It could be a good opportunity to listen to podcasts about your specific interests.
