Are private assessments recognised?

Hi,

Has anyone been diagnosed privately and if so was the diagnosis recognised by your gp?

I'm 38 and looking into a private assessment for ASD. I know it's hellish expensive so I want to make sure it won't be dismissed and a waste of money.

Thanks

  • Well I've not told my GP and I'm not sure I'm going to. It's not his fault, but a succession of GPs over many years have misdaignosed me, turned me into an addict, failed to take me seriously etc etc. Psychiatrists, psychologists and counsellors have written reports and assessments, none of which can be found in the records.

I did it for me, my piece of mind, and it was money well spent.

I don't mean to knock the whole NHS, I receive great treatment for an organic condition, it's their mental health service that seems to be so overwhelmed; and that's down to the failure of the politicians.

As I understand it, they don't accept a private diagnosis as a diagnosis, they term it a 'professional assessment'. I don't quite know what that makes an NHS assessment.
