Oxfordshire Adult Autism Assessment Troubles

So I live in Oxfordshire, I'm an adult and I'm trying to get assessed for autism (aspergers) but I'm just stuck in an endless circle and I need help.

So in my area the kingwood service assesses people for autism, I applied to there but was told they cannot take me on because I am under the NHS adult mental health team (AMHT) and that the AMHT will be able to assess me, so I go to the AMHT for assessment but they tell me I have to go to the kingwood. Etc etc with nothing actually happening.

  • I'm really sorry to hear about your situation - and even sorrier  to say it isn't uncommon. OAADSS at Kingwood are commissioned to provide an assessment and diagnosis service to people who are not open to Mental Health services or Learning Disability services, as they have professionals with the skills to provide this service themselves. However, both services have realised that if they discharge people, Kingwood can and does see them. This is ethically and morally dubious in my view when people are in need of support. You are caught in a disagreement between Mental Health services and Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group who cannot agree who should diagnose adults with ongoing mental health conditions currently in need of support. The post below is correct - complain to Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (who are aware of the issue) and PALS.
