ADHD vs Autism-some key differences (unless you have both!)

I found this interesting....found it this morning while sippin coffee. I sometimes don't like these videos out of OVER-SIMPLIFICATION....but here it is. If you're terrible at finishing videos & just want the "cliff's notes"-Check out the line graph at the end.

  • This is the quiz https://theaddquiz.com/

I guess...how I feel about this...is that...if you are truly ADHD and that's it, increased physical exercise, cleaner diet and/or medication should balance you. I've been labeled w/underactivity in pre-frontal cortex & left temporal lobe (reading comprehension disability). The rest of my brain lit up like a christmas tree. I think we're going to find, that most ASD has ADHD traits, but not all ADHD people are ASD. How can I get a diagnosis with inattentive/overfocused adhd. I'm helped my medicine, but the anxiety is crippling & has just become a part of my life....vaping CBD is something I've introduced. I just think, I won't be happy until I get the re-evalution done at the Amen Clinics. I do feel failed by the medical field and I know there's others just like me. I need accuracy and knowledge so I can help myself....and I'm someone who got a brain scan. I'm just obsessing on this right now...I will go read the full article. Thnx for listening to the rant. When I took the quiz, I got all 7....that does not help me lol.

  • The article is really interesting. I want to know more about ADHD. What are the 7 different types?

  • I'm supposed to complete my 11th class this semester to finish my degree....I've done 10 so far bc I was driven/obsessed with my degree. Now that it feels "in my mind" that I already have it.....my brains like-why focus on this? Brain negotiations will take place.....my brain is tired of running this particular marathon. Talking to you guys...much more interesting.

  • I'm reading this article. REALLY good stuff in it. The part about Autistic inertia is fascinating.

This resonates with me alot. I don't think they have everything figured out between the attention issues in ASD/ADHD. It feels like they don't really understand/the categories feel muddled.

I have a TERRIBLE time shifting. Obsessions, shifting, flexibility--I believe when you have an overactive anterior cingulate gyrus. My parents have a hard time understand why I can't just 'take a break' to call them while I'm studying. I've explained it & they're starting to get it. Whatever I start on in the morning becomes my main focus for the day. I wake up, have coffee, shower then what to get right into what I'm doing, no windows up & if I start looking in this forum....I cannot pull myself away. Sometimes if I get out the chair, that I've sat in just perfectly....when I come back, I cannot find that same groove.....that is SO ANNOYING.

Whatever I start with....that's where my focus is. I also never check email/home phone in the morning either or it could potential set a bad mood for the whole day & I'll hyper focus on that. My mom does this with the news....I'm like STOP watching the news lol. 8 years later a therapist told her to & now she's doing it lol. I have to leave video games till the end of the day as well.

  • I have watched this video before. I know the video is about differences, but one of the key similarities between ADHD and autism is single attention - also known as monotropism. There is an interesting article which explains many aspects of autism in relation to the mono tropic cognitive style.

  • Thanks for showing this one. I like Paul's videos and hadn't seen this one before.

Paul, here, lists 'attention' as a primary feature. I've tended to find a fair few other differences in ADHD and the Aspie kind of autism. Impulse control is one where ADHD folks are known to often struggle much more than usual, whereas the Aspies I've personally known have seemed to think that impulse control 'comes as standard'. I've also tended to personally notice that the Aspies I know are really good with knowing systems inside out, whereas the ADHD folks I know are really great at seemingly knowing emotions inside out.

  • no pictures of my youth.only one of me at 5 and then  35 onwards. i wish i had ,i did a photo shoot for a friends sisters "a" level photograpy once so there may be some .

  • You got a picture? You could blurry out the face....just curious about the dreadlocks lol

  • His videos are really good, I sometimes feel like their a little "kiddy" but he's really kind. He also still calls is Asperger's vs ASD. I watched this one today & thought it interesting. It goes on to talk about the overlap of PTSD/Autism & how one can get misdiagnosed. That's why I rely on the brain scans vs. a symptoms checklist. Better to see the brain & let it tell you. www.youtube.com/watch

  • I don't own a brush...eventually, I end up with a dreadlock in the back--like a rat tail. Remember those?! Then I'm confronted with the great untangling. I was a hairdresser/colorist for 10 yrs, people thought it was really funny I didn't own a brush. Too. Much. Work.

  • Interesting ,i had dreadlocks in the early 80's

  • Really good explanation
