Anxious attachment style - anyone else have this?

I'm not sure how common this is among other autistic folk by I'm keen to find out.

I was diagnosed with autism aged 22, I'm 27 now. I've recently been advised that I most probably have an 'anxious attachment style' (also known as preoccupied attachment style) and that this is caused by a fear of losing someone I trust i.e. that they will suddenly drop me or disappear from my life.

It leads to a lot obsessive behaviours in me e.g. constantly emailing certain people, checking if I have a reply, feeling generally preoccupied with worries around that person

I only experience this around a small number of people who have given me great support over the years.

Does anyone else have experience of any of this? Thanks

  • Yep, I also have anxious attachment style (although as I got older, I also developed traits of avoidant attachment style). I think it comes from low self-esteem - we get shunned, rejected and misunderstood by society so when we do find people we click with, we get attached and are terrified of losing them.
