Why i don't like birthdays

Today is my birthday. I just sat on my bed and cried. It is all too much.

Everyone expects you to be happy and everybody feels entitled to speak to you.

People send you bits of cardboard with pictures on you wouldn't necessarily choose to put in your house.

People give you gifts that you don't really want or send money and the feel obliged to do the same on their birthdays.

Why is there such a thing about the day you were born? Why dies everyone expect it to be magical and different when it is just an ordinary day except for being bombarded by people ?

I thought having a 2nd lockdown birthday in a row would ease the pressure but it increases it.

Can't wait for tomorrow.

  • I like the concept of birthday but i dont like the traditional party, i did when i was a kid because my mother hired a reptile guy (ahh the times before my countries recession lol) and i was obsessed lol so i think that allowed me to like the parties well enough then, but it always happened that the other kids would all play and id be obsessed with whatever the theme was and would soend time on my own engaging with it lol, i must have seemed lonely to them

Now i primarily enjoy eatting well on my birthday. A nice resturant meal with a few people close to me , and maybe a trip too the zoo on birthdays where i have lots of energy, and i couldn’t be happier

  • Also i guess this answer sorta seems disjointed from the prompt , so to elaborate a bit there also was a period where i refused to tell anyone my birthday  and actually cried when it was revealed....that was embarrassing lol, especially since i have a twin who did not mind her birthday celebrations so it wasn't all that much of a secret no matter how i tried but i really just did not like the kind of traditional exchange, especially since i cant thank people for gifts, i always sound so...scripted i guess. I wish people could just feel my feelings and feel how grateful i am
