Why i don't like birthdays

Today is my birthday. I just sat on my bed and cried. It is all too much.

Everyone expects you to be happy and everybody feels entitled to speak to you.

People send you bits of cardboard with pictures on you wouldn't necessarily choose to put in your house.

People give you gifts that you don't really want or send money and the feel obliged to do the same on their birthdays.

Why is there such a thing about the day you were born? Why dies everyone expect it to be magical and different when it is just an ordinary day except for being bombarded by people ?

I thought having a 2nd lockdown birthday in a row would ease the pressure but it increases it.

Can't wait for tomorrow.

  • In primary school, there was a stupid hat in the shape of a birthday cake that you had to wear when it was your birthday. I never told anyone when my birthday was, so that I wouldn't have to wear the hat.

I'm sorry you find it overwhelming. You should tell people that you prefer them not to make a fuss, because they're only trying to be nice and they probably don't realise it's too much for you.
