Housing

Hi everyone.

Been thinking about it a lot recently and I don't know what I would do about housing in the future. I'm 28 and still living at home and cared for by my mum and I know she's not gonna be around forever. I don't know a single thing about housing and stuff like that. I don't work due to my condition and have no friends or partner and just don't know where to go in my life.

  • The first thing would be to call your local authority for a needs assessment and they will offer to help you with housing and benefits.

their is a new form of supported living where you have your own tenancy in your own self contain flat in building with other other neurological divergent individuals where their is a support worker located within the building to assist you if you need it as well as offering arrange hours of support. for some people this is a stepping stone developing life skills and help get you used to managing your own finances before moving into fully independent accommodation. You should qualify for housing benefits that would completely pay your rent & council tax or reduction in council tax. In this situation you’ll have your own bills like electric, gas and internet but you wouldn’t have to worry about home insurance.

whist in this accommodation they can look into employment schemes and education opportunities and obtain financial assistance.

Alternatively the needs assessment can result in a social / support worker who can focus on employment support, benefits and education and developing life skills where you are currently residing with your parents and help engaging with others on the autism spectrum through specialised clubs and social events.
