Finding Purpose in life

Hi Everyone

Jumping in on the deep-end with this topic but does anyone else struggle with purpose? I often feel I am lacking purpose in life and this feels me with a great deal of anxiety and depression, but I don't know whether this is caused but unreasonable expectations of what I should be achieving. I have a good job (Admittedly I find it dull) but otherwise I don't feel like I've achieved much in life and I think my overthinking of things only exacerbates this feeling. I just wondered whether I was alone in experiencing this or not, and if anyone else has felt this do you have any advice on how to overcome or combat it?

Many thanks in advance Slight smile

  • From personal experience:

I was diagnosed with Autism in 2013 when i was just 13 years old. Since then i have struggled to feel a puprose in life because i was always fighting against my inner self. Im now 20 and i have decided to embrace my inner self by trying to work my life aound what i belive is best for me and my mental health. Alot of these sites an forums such as this one can help you ou alot in helping you to feel a sense of purpose. Everyone has a purpose in life the hard thing is to find out what it is, but i belive that all the support around you will help ypu feel and find that purpose easier.

    I hope this helps

  • i would suggest you get into retail ---- or any other job  for that matter. The aim is to get you out the door and doing something. to build up your confidence/experience.

also how about volunteering on an open farm or conservation volunteers.

just try out different jobs and see how it goes.

I was told to do drama at one point. I suspect as a type of therapy / confidence building ( I never went near it )

i immediately chose retail because you look friendly. But maybe u're not Slight smile

  • i would suggest you get into retail -

What - one of the most difficult environments to work in - having to interface with NTs all day, every day and potentially having sales targets to test your interpersonal skills (which we're renowned for) - or are you talking stacking shelves while the public keep asking you which aisle is xxx in?    Supermarkets are usually hotbeds of staff bullying - and zero-hour contracts to ruin your life.
