Finding Purpose in life

Hi Everyone

Jumping in on the deep-end with this topic but does anyone else struggle with purpose? I often feel I am lacking purpose in life and this feels me with a great deal of anxiety and depression, but I don't know whether this is caused but unreasonable expectations of what I should be achieving. I have a good job (Admittedly I find it dull) but otherwise I don't feel like I've achieved much in life and I think my overthinking of things only exacerbates this feeling. I just wondered whether I was alone in experiencing this or not, and if anyone else has felt this do you have any advice on how to overcome or combat it?

Many thanks in advance Slight smile

  • Great topic guys.

Like everyone here I am searching always. I've realised sometime ago this is a big part of my problem as there are no answers, only sensibilities that I try to capture and remember as I go through life, in an attempt to build a referenceable toolkit of principles/precepts.

Helping other people seems to feed my heart. Working alongside people seems to drain me completely. Following orders I find almost impossible without some degree of creative rerouting as I go.

Meditation saves my life everyday, twice a day. The Taoist belief in The Middle Way is what I aspire to.

I feel that spoken & written language fails to convey my thoughts and feelings effectively, so making art is the only option for me, a language no one will fully grasp, but I find is as releasing as anything I know of. Music too .

Animals are something I've always found to bring me some peace. Real true nature is where we are from, and where we all end up. This human defined world is literally the goings on of a single species, that's why we all struggle so much I believe.

We are still part of nature, so I expect to find answers reflected back at me from that place.

If you do nothing else in life, spend time in the ocean. Get on a surf or paddle board, and watch the sunrise or set, and float. Play in the waves. This is such an innate, human experience, but crucially, at the feet of the natural world.
