Eating raw meat as a child

I was just thinking about peculiar behaviours I had as a child and one was to eat raw me. Usually just read meat. I am wondering if this was an early sign of autism and how many other people on here have had similar experiences if at all?

  • I used to eat lip balms, pencils, rubbers, paper, lollipop sticks and I'd chew my jumpers to death. Oh and pen lids. I still chew the pen lids until my mouth hurts, and lollipop sticks. I actually eat them

I have an aversion to what I call "hard crunch". Thinking about crunching through a Malteser makes me tense up. I don't mind some crunches like crisps, and softer biscuits, but a lot of crunchy things just need to go away. Finding a crunchy thing in a dessert can ruin the whole thing for me. I can chew other hard textures (food and non-food things) as if it is a comfort even though it often hurts.

I used to eat dried spaghetti and I love dipping my finger in gravy but especially oxo cubes (mouth is watering now). I binge eat and I also save the best food until last, whatever that may be, as like others have said I like to end on the best taste.

I actually thought I was a normal eater before I wrote this - I'm not a rigid eater and like to try new things - but maybe not as normal as I think after all?!

    I'm not diagnosed yet.
