A sibling living with an Autistic child - HELP!

Hi everyone

My daughter Rhiannon (8) has been recently been given an ASD daignoses, however her behaivour at home has been "challenging" all her life!

I have a wee boy, Laughlan who is (5) who just does not understand why Rhiannon behaves so badly and why I dont "punish" her.  He has been slapped in the face and throttled so many times by Rhiannon that I have lost count.

Today, after been wacked by Rhiannon again, he asked me why I dont put Rhiannon in jail!  I feel SO sorry for him, I have tried to explain what life for an Autistic child means, but in the end - he is only 5!

Any advice on how to help Laughlan and Rhiannon would be greatfully appreciated.

Thank you

K

  • Hi I too am having the same issues my daughter is in the process of being diagnosed with asd, and our lives are upside down at the moment. Its breaking my heart watching her attacking and taking her frustration out on my youngest daughter, so for now I have to ensure i take the little one everywere with me to stop any dangerous violence from my eldest . Its tough to say the least  isnt it. most days ends in tears from both me and my daughters :( If only we had the answers hey xx
