A sibling living with an Autistic child - HELP!

Hi everyone

My daughter Rhiannon (8) has been recently been given an ASD daignoses, however her behaivour at home has been "challenging" all her life!

I have a wee boy, Laughlan who is (5) who just does not understand why Rhiannon behaves so badly and why I dont "punish" her.  He has been slapped in the face and throttled so many times by Rhiannon that I have lost count.

Today, after been wacked by Rhiannon again, he asked me why I dont put Rhiannon in jail!  I feel SO sorry for him, I have tried to explain what life for an Autistic child means, but in the end - he is only 5!

Any advice on how to help Laughlan and Rhiannon would be greatfully appreciated.

  • hi - are you getting any help/support, such as family, social services, for Rhiannon and yourselves, is Rhiannon getting the support she needs at school?   Has she got a daily routine that she understands?   Sorry for all the questions.  It's because I've found that having enough good quality support in place can make a big difference to all concerned.  For example if she finds school incredibly stressful, then she'll let off steam at home.  She may even be able to appear to cope at school, bottling it up all day.   If you haven't already, have a look on the home page and check the posts for info/advice to do with your situation.  bw
