Need some advice

Hello, I'm not sure how to word this properly but here goes. I'm pretty sure I have aspergers syndrome. The closest people to me have encouraged me to try and get help, as it's really starting to affect my life.

I struggle with going out and doing mundane things but I've always excelled with computers and stuff. I went to the doctors and they didn't help me at all. It's affecting me with trying to look for employment and I'm just struggling to cope with it anymore. I have just turned 27 so I really don't know what to do. My family moan at me and I just shutdown and say nothing but it's difficult to explain to them.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello NAS71574,

I've had a lifetime of difficulties, differences and anxiety, I've struggled for decades. I thought for a very long time that I was maybe autistic, but an NHS psychiatrist and several psychologists and counsellors continually said it was anxiety. If I mentioned autism they sort of swerved away from it. I had long periods of counselling which were only ever helpful in the short term. Then, when I was in my mid-sixties, I took matters into my own hands and went private; I was quickly assessed and told I have ASD. It wasn't a shock but a relief. Why didn't I do that sooner? I don't know, and I don't say everyone would get the same result.

Of course, private consultations cost money, but it was well spent.

I've only been on this forum a short while and have found there are many members here of all ages who have followed the private route to diagnosis. I'm sure one or two will be along shortly with their thougths.
