NHS Diagnosis assessment process

Either as part of the referral from the GP, or before your appointment you will usually complete an Autism screening form- it asks things about social skills, imagination, comfort with other people, etc.

Based on this, you will be offered an appointment (if the assessment is indicative of possible ASD) or to other services.

The waiting list varies by area, and it can be from six months to a year or more.

If your symptoms are causing you trouble, keep going back to your GP. 

You will probably get a letter saying you are on the waiting list, which might or might not have additional information about your assessment, and then within 6 weeks of your appointment you should get an appointment letter.

If you are willing to accept a last minute appointment, you could contact the Mental Health facility to which you have been referred and let them know.
