Copying accents

I have this really annoying habit. I feel like I don’t have my own accent, I just copy the accent of whoever I’m speaking to at the time. I am conscious of myself doing it and I try to stop myself but I just can’t! Does anyone else do this? Is it an autism thing?

  • No idea if it is an autism thing but that's definitely something I do. English is not my native languge so my actual English accent is all over the place and people have a real struggle to place me.

When I used to work with Australians and Kiwis, I'd pick up their accents and people thought I was from there.

I wonder if it is because autistic people are susceptible to copying?
