Copying accents

I have this really annoying habit. I feel like I don’t have my own accent, I just copy the accent of whoever I’m speaking to at the time. I am conscious of myself doing it and I try to stop myself but I just can’t! Does anyone else do this? Is it an autism thing?

  • I haven't been diagnosed but this is something that I do. It can make me sound very strange if I get mentally mixed up and mix two accents. I originally have a broad Lancashire accent but I moved to Manchester and now often say things in a Manchester accent. I've just started a job in Yorkshire and I can already hear my accent changing on my phone calls to people in the area.
