Copying accents

I have this really annoying habit. I feel like I don’t have my own accent, I just copy the accent of whoever I’m speaking to at the time. I am conscious of myself doing it and I try to stop myself but I just can’t! Does anyone else do this? Is it an autism thing?

my mum does that. My mum ( like me ) has autism but she doesnt know it. She was able to get people especially workmen to do anything because she talked just like them

I did that in New York once.....in the bronx.....luckily it was only an "I haven't got any change man" line but eek.....Theres a roll of the head in India called an "achar" where it means "yes, no or maybe" and I found myself doing that a lot in India.....until my dad pointed it out :s

no this is complete conversations and slang --- a complete mimic. Its really freaky to see your mum flick her accent and continue talking and speaking in their slang to the point i cant understand her ( Glaswegian ) but the guy / woman in front of her, of course, has no bother

It is a very useful skill
